Day Six Blog Question

Who were Nat Turner, Frederick Douglas, and Harriet Beecher Stowe? Why were they important in the Civil War Era?

  1. Fredrick Douglass was one the the most famous escaped slaves in the U.S. He fought for the American rights and against racial injustice.
    Nat turner was a preacher for slaves.
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. She spoke against slavery in America and in Europe.

  2. Nat Turner was a slave who led a rebellion in Virginia on August 21, 1831. Nat turner was convicted and sentenced to be executed. Frederick Douglas was a slave who had a very negative view towards whipping. He called the act of whipping "the blood-stained gate" or "the entrance to the hell of slavery". Harriet Beecher Stowe was an abolitionist who wrote a novel called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". Harriet wrote all about the horrible way slaves were treated. These people were all very important during the civil war, because they each showed the world how horible slavery was.

  3. Nat Turner - He was an American slave who led other slaves in Virginia in 1831 which eventually had ended in many deaths.

    Frederick Douglass - He was an American abolitionist. He escaped from slavery. He was a believer in equality. Which mean's he believed in everything being the same.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe, was an author who wrote the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin". She alway's talked about slavery.

    They were all important to the Civil War Era, because they all had something to do with slavery. Frederick and Nat were both slaves, and escaped from slavery, and Harriet, had always talked about how horrible slavery was, and wrote about it, in her stories.

  4. Nat Turner was a slave who led a rebellion in Virginia. He, along with others, were accused of killing 50 white men, women and children. He was convicted and sentenced to death.

    Frederick Douglas was a former slave who became a leader in anti-slavery movement. He gave speeches because he was angry with the Fugitive Slave Act and that citizens were required by law to help capture escaped slaves.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe was opposed to slavery and wanted to express her emotions regarding slavery. She wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin, which was about a slave and how he was treated by his owner.

    They were important during the Civil War Era because all three of them had some effect on the issue of slavery during that time.

  5. Nat Turner was an African American who started a rebellion of slaves to fight against the whites hoping it would start an uprising to end slavery. But it didnt work and many slaves were captured and killed.
    Frederick Douglass was a slave who escaped and later became an anti-slavery lecturer.
    Harriet Beecher Stowe was a teacher and a writer who wrote a book speaking against slavery called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". she later wrote another novel called "Dred" being her seconf anti-slavery novel.

  7. Nat Turner was the most famous slave in America that lead the rebellion in Virginia. Frederick Douglas was an abolitionist who escaped from slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". She also talked about slavery a lot. They are all important to the civil war era because they all wanted to abolish slavery.

  8. Nat Turner- Nat was a slave and the property of Samuel Turner of Southampton County, Virginia. He believed that he had a direct relationship with God and was being given heavenly instructions and signs to lead an armed revolution. His band of followers never numbered more then 50 men, and the hostilities ended within two days. He was captured, found guilty and executed on November 11, 1831, in Jerusalem, Virginia.


    Frederick Douglass- He was famous because he became one of the greatest anti-slavery leaders in history. He also put great effort into the rights for women. He supported women's rights because he thought everyone should be treated equally. He was also famous for the books and autobiographies he wrote.


    Harriet Beecher Stowe- She was famous for her book called "Uncle Tom's Cabin", published in 1852. It later became a bestseller. She did everything to make the world aware of the evils of slavery in America.

  10. Nat Turner was an American Slave who led a Slave Rebellion in Virginia. Fredrick Douglass was an American Abolitionist and a strong believer of equality. Harriet Beecher Stowe was also an American Abolitionist and the Author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. They were all important to the Civil War Era because they were all slaves of sort weather themselves or their family. They also tried to fight for freedom of slaves weather they wrote or spoke about it. Brock Maroukis.

  11. Nat Turner was an American Slave who led the slave rebellion in virgina on August 21, 1831 which led to the death of 56, which was a high number of white fatalities in the southern states.

    Fredrick Douglas was an American Abolitionist , Women's Suffragist , escaping from slavery he made strong contributions to the abolitionist movement. He was also a firm believer in equality of all people.


    Harriet Beecher Stowe was also an American Abolitionist , and the author of the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin which told the story of the lives of african americans under slavery.


    All three of these people were important to the Civil War Era because they were all involved in slavery whether it was themselve or family members of theirs.They all also had a strong belief in fighting for the freedom of slaves .

    Fredrick Douglas-He was one of the greatest anti-slavery leaders. He supported womens rights.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe-She wrote the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". It explained all of cruelty of slavery. It became very popular.
