The North was against slavery and the South was for slavery, the South was also very angry because the North made large profits by marketing their cotton crop. The North's hatred of slavery was mostly due to how the slaves were treated by their owners. In 1857, Dred Scott, a slave who had been brought to free territory and then returned by his master to slave territory, appealed to the courts for his freedom. However, the Supreme Court was dominated by Southerners and declared that Scott was not a citizen and therefor could not argue for his freedom. The court also declared that slaves where property, this made the North realize that the question of slavery could not be settled legally.
The Civil War was about Abraham Lincoln not wanting to end slavery were it existed and the confederacy wasn't very happy about it so they attacked Fort Sumter. The Federal troops fought back, beginning the Civil War.
I believe the Civil War was about slavery and the Southern states secession from the U.S. Southern states were slaveholding states and the Northern states were opposed to slavery. The Southern states withdrew from the Union. Once Abraham Lincoln was elected as President, the southern states withdrew from the Union because they wanted to keep their slaves and President Lincoln was opposed to slavery.
The Civil War was about how Lincoln tried ending slavery. But the Confederates didn't agree with what Lincoln said during his inaugural address. So later that day was when the Confederates first attacked Fort Sumter and started the Civil War.
The North and the South fought for their slavery and their Civil rights. The North opposed slavery and the South accepted slavery as a way to help their lifestyle. The south relied on slaves to get cotton, and the North had industries and had a booming economy.
The civil war was mainly about economics. The south relied on the fact that the large plantations needed many hands to support their farmlands and slavery was a big part of that. The north did not support slavery and the south wanted to maintain slavery, so the conflict was on. De'Sean Leigh
